Alameda County Sheriff's Office, CA - Recruiting
Home Recruiting MenuPreparing for Academy
The California Peace Office Standards Training (POST) Regular Basic Police Academy is a rigorous 28 week training that requires both physical and mental preparation.
Physical Preparation
Prior to starting Academy, Recruit students should begin a physical training program immediately. This program should minimally include, endurance (running), strength (upper body pull ups, push ups and bench press) and core (sit ups) exercises.
Mental Preparation
Recruit Academy is academically challenging. There are 48 separate POST learning domains that are taught in the Academy, therefore it is necessary to adopt good study habits similar to a full-time college student. Testing methods will include written, multiple choice and demonstrative examples. Examples of California POST written test formats can be found on the California POST website.
